I've got the muddy water blues today. We finally got some much-needed rain in the mountains- too much! Many of the rivers are blown out today due to heavy downpours, but don't expect it to last too long. Looking at the forecast, I think things should return to normal in the next day or two.
I guess those guys in the shop really do know what they're talking about! Check this slab MJ caught floating the Lower Colorado.
Antero is finally open and is all the rage right now- not a bad option with all of the dirty water going around right now. See the article below for details
By the way.....Is there anything any of you loyal readers are dying to know about? Anything you'd like to see change in the newsletter? Don't be shy! Feel free to email me at (chris@fishcolorado.com). I'd love to hear from you.

Fly fishing is a sport in which patience, precision, finesse, and listening skills are key. For many women, these traits come naturally, but often men have to combat issues with pride, power, and the need for instant gratification before they begin to learn. Simply stated, women seem to be inherently wired for fly fishing, whereas most men need several visits to the Radio Shack and a master electrician to learn properly.
Almost any professional guide will agree that the learning curve is much quicker with female anglers, and that they tend to embrace the total experience of fly fishing rather than focusing on just a head count.
I am seeing more and more female anglers in the shop and on the river every year, but would like to invite any of you who are curious about the sport to join our professional guide staff for a day on the water. It's really not just "a guy thing." In fact, the only advantage the guys have is that it's easier for them to pee in the bushes!
Here are some useful links for females interested in fly fishing:
Antero Reservoir finally opened July 17, 2007 after being closed to fishing since 2002. Known for it's enormous fish population and monster trout, Antero is perhaps Colorado's finest stillwater fishery. Several of the guides and locals have ventured to the lake since opening day and reports have been outstanding.
Six year old Walker Gloudemans landed this monster on his fly rod and hooked another that made this one look small. Walker told me this morning "I didn't even see it [the strike indicator] go down. I just thought something might be on there."
Few of us have the big fish catching genes that Walker was born with, but there is a valuable lesson to be learned from his statement if you think about it.
Nymph rigs with Callabaetis patterns and attractor nymphs have so far been the ticket, and many fish in the 5-10 lb. range have been landed. Fishing on Antero may slow down as fall approaches, but if you can't make it out this summer, next spring should bring absolute madness! Bring your belly boat, a spool of 3X, and hang on!!!!
The staff at Cutthroat Anglers would like to thank all of you who donated funds, time, and private water for the Troop Benefit we held on June 24. The event was a great success and we could not have pulled it off without your support.
We were able to put all of the soldiers on highly sought-after private water, landed plenty of
monster trout, lost a few more, and Andrew's mom made sure the guys had plenty of homemade goodies
to take
back to the base.
The event was certainly an eye opener for our staff. After talking with the soldiers from Fort Carson, we all gained a greater appreciation for the the risks, hard work, and tough conditions our troops are enduring overseas.
We feel truly blessed at Cutthroat Anglers to be surrounded by such a supportive group of clients, friends, and family members. Thank You.
Tight Lines,
Chris Hall and Trapper Rudd
