The lower Roaring Fork is off color most days, but the fish are showing no signs of slowing down. They're chowing like its mid-June. The flows are around 800CFS, so its definitely high enough to float, which can be a treat this early in the year. The trout have had minimal food selection or abundance, so the added food into the system is not going to be ignored. Play with your weights until you find the correct depth for feeding fish. You're not going to always find the fish hugging the bottom, but its usually a safe place to start. If you get nothing, try fishing the middle of the water column and then about 6"-12" below the surface. You should find feeding fish if you have a drag-free drift. If the river blows out after extended warmth you probably want to avoid this spot. It can fish great, but the conditions can change in a heartbeat. In our opinion, it is a gamble worth taking because the fishing can be outstanding.
