Blue River in Silverthorne - 04/07/07

Guides Rating: Guides Rating of 4 Stars
Streamflow at time of report: 113cfs

The Blue is a great spring option. As a tailwater, the Blue runs clear and controlled 99.9% of the time. Denver Water is predicting a great water year for the Blue, so increased flows could produce a banner year for fishing on the Blue.

Head Guide Andrew walked the Blue by the factory stores and saw rising fish on every good seam. He said you have to have cloud cover to find risers, but the forecast is calling for clouds for the next 10 days. Time to get out the waders and tie on a tiny dry fly.

Keep an eye on the flows! If Denver Water releases water soon we will most likely see a feeding bonanza. The increase in flow will flush the system with excess mysis shrimp. Deep nymph rigs with big mysis shrimp will definitely produce a bent rod.

Remember!!! When the flows go up, the fish move to the calmer water so you don't have to wade deep. If you're finding it hard to stand due to the current pulling you down then you are standing on the fish - this is not a good thing!!

The Blue fishes the best at +400CFS. If you're not catching fish it is because you are either standing on them or not getting down deep enough. Book a guide trip to find out what you're doing wrong and start catching more fish on your own!
