Blue River North of Town - 10/11/11

Guides Rating: Guides Rating of 3 Stars
Streamflow at time of report: 88cfs

The Kokanee Salmon are beginning to make their annual trek from Green Mountain Reservoir up and into the Blue River towards Silverthorne. Although most of the salmon are still staging in the inlet area at the north end of the reservoir, there have been s few reports of the red beast actually being spotted in the river itself just above the inlet area. As of this posting, the salmon run has yet to hit full stride stride but it is beginning. Red is always a good color this time of year.

Fishing for trout has been better than fishing for salmon. We haven't been seeing much surface action but a nymph rig has been producing good results.

Patterns for this stretch:

Red and Pink San Juan Worms, Pink, Red and Orange Eggs, Red Copper Johns, Tungsten Prince Nymphs, Twenty Inchers, JuJu Baetis, Barr's Emerger, Tung Teaser, Tungsten Flashbugs, CDC Hare's Ear, Guide's Choice Hare's Ear, Baetis, Crystal Flash Buggers and slightly larger Pheasant Tails.
