Gore Creek near Minturn - 04/08/07

Guides Rating: Guides Rating of 3 Stars
Streamflow at time of report: 9.2cfs

This river is flowing relatively clear because of the clean snow melt. Once runoff arrives, the Gore will swell and be a poor option until it stables. The crowds seem to follow the weather patterns, so while you might want to get in a few final turns before the slopes close you might find a vacant river if you venture out during less than optimal conditions.

Reports are coming in that the best fishing is near the confluence with the Eagle and in West Vail. Be sure you are aware of your surroundings . You don't want to trespass.

The flows are relatively low, so stealth and presentation are paramount. 6X flouro is highly recommended for tippets. Double nymph rigs are going to be the most productive on average until after runoff, but you have a chance at finding a few eager risers to BWOs in the coming weeks leading up to runoff.

Warning!! The Rainbows and Cutthroats will soon move to their spawning beds. Please avoid redds as they are the key to future trout generations. You should always take inventory of the river before entering, but special consideration is critical to avoid beds. You should find feeding Browns downstream of redds, so leave the spawners alone to do their thing.
