As mentioned in the overall report, there is a release of 543 CFS coming out of Dillon Dam as of April 26. This is big water for the Blue. When this happens, the numbers of mysis shrimp in the system increase exponentially. Many of the giant rainbows, cutthroats, and browns that generally reside in the no fishing zone will also move down into town, and the fish feed with reckless abandon.
Even better, you can keep those size 26 midges and flip down magnifiers in your vest. Instead, fish with San Juan Worms, large mysis shrimp, and larger nymphs. Stop in and see us for an update on the latest hot flies. We've got some great new mysis patterns too.
A Tip From the Pros: When flows go up on the Blue, many anglers are actually standing where they should be fishing. Walk the banks and look for fish feeding in the soft pockets along the edges of the river. When you find a pod of fish, cast from the bank. Don't worry- you're still fly fishing even though you're not standing chest deep in your waders.
