Cutthroat Anglers Owner Trapper Rudd with fish

Archived Report

Blue River below Green Mtn. Res - 04/28/07

Guides Rating: Guides Rating of 0 Stars
Streamflow at time of report: 118cfs

Flows out of Green Mountain Reservoir have been cut to just over 100 CFS in an effort to fill the lake. This is a very wadeable flow, but do not attempt to float now. The shop has been full of successful anglers grinning ear to ear after fishing this area. Strong hatches of midges and BWO's have been reported, as well as some trophy trout landed. A two fly nymph rig with a large beadhead on top and a more red midge or attractor pattern below has been the ticket.

Please be aware that much of the land on the Lower Blue is private, so it is wise to get a good map and know where you're fishing. We have detailed maps for sale at the shop.

Fly selection includes: Egg patterns, Red BLM, Red Brassie, Red Disco Midge, Barr's BH Emerger, JuJu Baetis, Gidgets, BWO Triggers, Olive Baetis Nymph and San Juan Worms. Larger attractors include stonefly nymphs, Cased Caddis nymphs and Tung Teasers.
