The fill of Green Mountain Reservoir has started, which means that the Lower Blue has been cut back to 115 CFS- a very wadeable flow. Since we don't guide this stretch of water, we often tend to overlook it. We have had several reliable sources tell us that right now it's not to be overlooked. This piece of water is known for it's vividly colored, hard fighting trout, and the word on the street is that they're looking to party.
The ticket seems to be the color red. Red San Juan Worms, Red Disco Midges, Red BLM's and Red Brassies have all been producers. Other patterns include Barr's BH BWO Emergers, Gummy Stones, and Barr's Flashback Tungstones. Since the flow is controlled on this stretch of river, runoff should not be an issue until the lake fills.
