The Blue is now up to 720 CFS as I type and should reach about 750 by Saturday. Great News! What that means to us is tons of mysis shrimp in the system and giant red striped rainbows moving from the dam into town. I walked the river yesterday and was able to spot several of these beasts. It required a great deal of self control, but I didn't fish them. They're all yours!
Even better, you can keep those size 26 midges and flip down magnifiers in your vest. Instead, fish with San Juan Worms, large mysis shrimp, and larger nymphs. Stop in and see us for an update on the latest hot flies. We've got some great new mysis patterns too.
A Tip From the Pros: When flows go up on the Blue, many anglers are actually standing where they should be fishing. Walk the banks and look for fish feeding in the soft pockets along the edges of the river. When you find a pod of fish, cast from the bank. Don't worry- you're still fly fishing even though you're not standing chest deep in your waders.
