For all you dry junkies out there it's your time of year! Surface action is hot and hatches are abundent. Hit the top with Caddis, Drakes, PMD's, Sallies etc.. Stop in the shop and we will let you in on all the hatch secrets and also take advantage of the largest "Adult" selection in the state,,,of flies that is.
After a couple weeks of considerably high river flows we are back to our prime fishing conditions on most Colorado rivers! Flows have take a dramatic drop over the past few days and local fishing fishing reports have been amazing. Condtions are prime for floating the Colorado, Arkansas, and Roaring Fork, so dig that drift boat out of the shed or book a trip with Cutthroat Anglers and add another experience to your Colorado fly fishing resume! If floating is not an option consider our own Blue River in town, or travel north to Parshall or the Hot Sulphur Springs area to get in an unforgetable day of wade fishing!
***NEW SUMMER HOURS STARTING JUNE 1: 7:00AM - 7:00PM EVERY DAY!***
Water We Guide On
Fishing on the Blue is at its prime! Flows are have stuck very consistant over the past couple weeks making our local tailwater a must fish. Drakes and Caddis are hatching throughout the day making dry fly fishing a productive option and as always the sub surface fishing is on fire!
Bugs- Caddis drys as well as pupa and larvae, Green Drake adult and nymphs, Gold Ribbed Hares Ears, Pheasant Tales, Ju Ju Baetis
Mysis Shrimp below Dillon Res.
Consider venturing North after a day of fishing in Town. Caddis and Drakes have been a bit more plentiful North of Silverthorne making it a great alternitive to town fishing. Caddis hatches have been balnketing the river in the early evening making a Stimulator, Caddis (double dry set up) a go to rig. Same bugs will apply for North of town except for the Mysis Shrimp.
One of the best wading options available! River traffic has been almost non existant and fishing is excellent. Consider sub surface Caddis Pupa and Larvae, and PMD Nymphs. Hatches have been going off around 10:30 am, so make it out early and enjoy!
Great flows for a mid summer float! Caddis have been seen frequently over the past few weeks. Yellow Sally Nymphs and dry's, along with Green Drakes have been the bugs of choice for Cutthroat Anglers guides.
Recommended flies, NITRO CADDIS!! Yuba Pupa olive 14, Micro Mayfly Electric Yellow 14, Moorish Hotwire Caddis Tan 14, CDC Pheasant Tail Flashbacks, Copper Johns, CDC Gold Ribbed Hares Ears.
If fish are feeding on the surface, Caddis, PMD's, and Green Drakes will be the ticket.
Put hope in your Hopper!
One of the most enjoyable rigs to fish has been marked as one of the most productive lately. Fish Hopper Dropper set ups for the day or match the hatch and fish Drakes, Caddis, and PMD's on the surface.
I had one of my best fishing days of my life floating this section a week ago. Chubby Chernobyl dropped to a Pheasant tale was the rig of the day, a close second was a double dry Stimulator to Caddis. If you don't have access to a raft call us and we will get you out on the river for one of the most epic days you will have on a Colorado stretch of water.
Excellent fishing when flows are below 3800. Shallow nymph rigs heavily weighted with bead heads of your choice. Keep constant eye on flow charts and don't miss out on this "shop favorite" river when it is running at its prime!
If you don't mind a bit of a hike to get into some large fish the South Platte is a great option for this time of year. Productive sub surface patterns for this time of year include Scuds, brassies, hares ears, pheasant tails, zug bugs, prince nymphs, midges, stoneflies. Look for Caddis, PMD's and Drakes on the surface and possibly some Tricos.
Excellent spring fishing. This is the time of year when the rivers rise, and the pond/lake fishing heats up! Get out on one of, if not our favorite stillwater in Colorado. As always Scud patterns, Chironomids, streamers, nymphs, etc.
The Williams Fork is always a great option this time of year. As a general rule of thumb for the Fork Drop a few sizes on bugs for this river but use similar patterns as on the Colorado such as Caddis, Drakes, PMD's, and bead heads. Evening dry fishing has been heating up so stay out on the river until dusk and take some trouts on the surface.
This creek is always flowing cold and foamy. Try using limes and salt if needed. Longnecks are the preferred choice, but almost any variety will catch a buzz.
Other Local Water
Becuase we do not guide on the following rivers, we cannot give the same detailed information that you find for the Water We Guide On. However, the streamflows are continuously updated, and we've done our best to give you a general idea of what to expect on these waters for this time of year.
One of my personal favorites, the Blue Below Green Mountain adds some scenic beauty to our local favorite. Bug selection is going to be very similar to the Blue River in town, but fish populations are going to be more concentrated. With consistent flows (around 100's) bringing high visibility to highly populated waters the fishing below the reservoir has been second to none. Fish similar bugs to the Blue in town (generic beads, emerger patterns, Baetis, etc.) but keep in mind more naturals as the water clarity will be higher than in town. Keep those eyes open for Caddis also!
Recommended flies- Hares Ear, Tungsten Teaser, Copper John and San Juan Worm (if the water is a little off color that day) Prince Nymph, Prince Nymph , Hot Wire Nymph, JU JU Baetis, U.V Emerger, Crystal Hunchback, Gidget, BWO's, Griffith's Gnat, Gulper Special,Stonefly Nymphs, Pat's Rubber legs
Delaney Buttes is fishing off the wall! Your arsenal will consist mostly of common lake patterns (Scuds, Chironomids, Copper Johns, Hares Ears, Pheasant Tails, Etc..) but don't be afraid to switch things up and strip some streamers such as Slump Busters, Crystal Buggers, and Leaches.
First hand guide fish catching recommendation
Size 14-16 dark Chironomdids with gray ribbing.

Disclaimer: Fishing reports are only as good as yesterday's information. Please
understand that while we strive to provide you with the most accurate information
available we can only relay yesterday's news. We also can't control the weather,
which plays a major role in hatches and trout activity. So, if we report a great
hatch, and you arrive at the river the next day to find no bugs we're terribly
sorry but that's why its called fishing - Enjoy the ride!
