Charles is a local boy. He grew up in Summit County and now attends school at the University of Colorado in Boulder. During the summers, Chaz lends his local expertise to the shop by helping steer anglers towards the best hatches. He used to work at the Polo Factory Store; however, the constant folding lead to Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, so he had to convert to fly fishing full-time. We must admit though, the guy can flat out fold and he is far too color coordinated for us.
Now, Chaz can tell embellished fish tales with a straight face or help you find a small backcountry stream filled with Brookies and solitude. He can also tell the difference between a size #20 and #22 BWO Emerger without a second glance. We’re not sure if these skills will help him in his college studies or future endeavors, but they make him a favorite amongst our staff and clientele.
He also bears an uncanny resemblance to Malcolm in the Middle (Frankie Muniz), so we like to think he can always fall back on a career as a stunt double.
Chaz breathes a youthful exuberance into the shop, which helps keep us from becoming stuffy and rusty. Gen Y is almost as confusing to us as why trout will eat only eat a #22 midge pattern, but not the same pattern in a #20, so Charles acts as a bridge between us traditional codgers and young anglers who are the future of fly fishing.
