Charlie was fortunate to escape the western suburbs of St. Louis and settle comfortably in Colorado when his father Allan, an avid dry fly fisherman, moved the family to Fairplay, CO in 1994. It was at this time Charlie received his first fly rod, crafted in Salida CO, and began fishing the dry fly hatches prone to the smaller rivers of Park County. Charlie attended South Park High School and though he was never fortunate enough to have Mr. Garrison as his teacher, he did kill Kenny (twice).
Charlie then moved to the southwest to further his education at Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO, where he obtained his bachelors degree in Finance and Business, and still found the time to fish the Animas River of Lost Souls and the surrounding streams of the Southwest.
It wasn't until the winter of 2005 that Charlie returned to the Summit County area and became a dogsledding guide for Snow Caps Sled Dogs in Breckenridge. Mushing quickly became a passion, and the winter "yin", to his fly fishing "yang". Dog Sled Guiding during the winter and Fly Fish Guiding in the summer are now his primary occupations. Though it may sound like an easy lifestyle, it requires Charlie to endure hard work in the harshest climates Colorado has to offer, and still provide an amazing experience for everyone that joins him for an adventure.
It's Charlie's goal to constantly improve his own fishing and fly tying by traveling to new waters and fishing with different anglers. Charlie believes that the foundation for learning how to fly fish starts with Patience, Practice, and Persistence. If you show up with those, he can teach you the rest.
