Courtney taught himself to fly fish right here on the Blue River. We’re fairly confident the fickle trout and freezing waters of the Blue took their toll on Courtney, but we decided to take pity on him and offer him a job as a guide. He quickly grew into an indispensable piece of Cutthroat Anglers.
During the winter, Courtney is a Copper Mountain Ski Patroller and plays a role in the extreme skiing movies that continuously play over and over and over again…ugh. While we cannot say he is the magic behind the lens or the insane skier, we know that the shows would not be the same without Courtney’s deft touch – take our word for it.
“Thanks again for a terrific day on the Colorado on Thursday. I enjoyed fishing with you and I really got a blast out of watching those big browns and rainbows slam the streamers. I'm not really sure how many fish were hooked or landed - for me that means the fishing was as good as it gets.”

If Courtney is not working the shop or guiding, you will find him on the links tearing up the well manicured courses of Colorado. He is also in the process of training his lab, Ernie, the Super Dog, to be an avalanche rescue dog.
Courtney lived in New Zealand for over a year. He quickly adopted the Kiwi lifestyle and now exudes good vibes. Courtney hopes to one day prove he has a long-lost Maori ancestor to help him gain New Zealand citizenship. He fished many of the famed South Island rivers, and even managed to find a few sheep. Now, he has no trouble counting sheep to fall asleep at night.
Don’t let Courtney’s intimidating appearance fool you – think the Ajax Man. He is a big, cuddly teddy bear. He’ll also fish for any trout, in any water, any day of the week. Courtney really gets excited stalking big fish in small water, which explains his bias towards New Zealand. Of course, he won’t shy away from fishing for big fish in big water either. He simplifies it best, “I ain’t picky, as long as it stretches the net!”
