Private Water: Shadows Ranch

Shadows Ranch lies on the east side of the Continental Divide downstream of Georgetown. This ranch features private access on Clear Creek as it parallels I-70 and is a perfect choice for anglers in a time crunch who need to wet a line, but also must return to Denver. This gentle section of Clear Creek is also a great training ground for beginner anglers.

This upper stretch of Clear Creek is lined with willows, but the numerous trout decreases the necessity for casting accuracy. Most of the trout will average 12 to 14-inches in length, but a few brutes are in the river to keep anglers focused.

Dry-dropper combos and attractor dry flies are the standard options for fly choice at Shadows Ranch. When the fish are on, it seems like there is a hungry trout behind every rock. The ranch also has a pond full of trout offering a perfect change of pace. Beginners can hone their casting skills on the pond before tackling the river.
